Celebrating God's Gifts
On Sunday, October 14,
2018 the ten churches of the Southern
Cayuga Wider Parish will host “Celebrating
God’s Gifts: an afternoon for spirituality at Camp Gregory.” This event will be held from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
at Camp Casper Gregory, 1803 Lake Road, Aurora, NY. The Wider Parish invites everyone to experience some of the many ways
of prayer, meditation, and closeness to God that is practiced by Christians of
different traditions.
The afternoon will
allow participants of all ages to personally experience a spiritual encounter
with the Holy. The afternoon is designed for those who feel that they are
spiritual but not religious. Spiritual exercises include: expressing worship
through liturgical dance, joining in the songs,
prayer and silence of a short Taizé worship service; creating religious art
through rubbings; engaging with prayer through self-examination and spiritual
poetry; encountering the Holy during a meditation walk
through the woods culminating in a reflection period at the vesper site; and
learning the history of the labyrinth as a way to focus personal prayer and
meditation.
Liturgical dance
sessions will begin at 1:00 and 2:00 PM. Taizé Worship sessions begin at 1:30
PM and 2:30 PM. The meditation walk begins at 2:30 PM departing from the fire
circle. All other events are ongoing with a closing session of singing together
beginning at 3:30 PM. All ages are welcome to attend this event with the
express invitation to come and go as you like. Participants are encouraged to
dress for the weather and bring their own water bottle as water (without cups)
and apples will be provided for refreshment. Small baskets will be available
for monetary donations in support of local food cupboards.
Please enter Camp
Gregory through the upper (east) entrance and park on the edge of the open
filed below. Guides from the Wider Parish
churches will be on hand to welcome and assist guests.

UMA Holy Week Services
Holy Week can be a
‘piece of cake‘ to Christians as they shout ‘Hosanna’ on Palm Sunday and sing ‘Alleluia’ on Easter. Both are worthy,
uplifting services. However, the African-American spiritual, ‘Do Lord, O do
Lord, O do remember me,' contains one verse proclaiming 'If you can’t bear the
cross, you can’t wear the crown' which applies to the two weekday events
between Palm Sunday and
Easter. Maundy Thursday is a
service that reminds of us of the last supper, of forgiveness, and of seeking
peace. Hymns, prayer, Holy Communion, and sharing of crosses make up this
service. Good Friday, the darkest day in the
Christian calendar, reminds us of the cross, the betrayal of Jesus, and the
indifference of people to those who are suffering. Readings by members of the
community, an anthem, and prayers will be said and sung. Come to the United Ministry of Aurora, Thursday and Friday nights, March 28 and 29 at 7:00 PM to prepare yourself for the coming
joys of Easter. 337 Main
Street, Aurora NY 13026. All Welcome.
